EDI Competition

The Electronic Digital Image Competition (or EDI Comp). EDI Competitions are now a fixture in our competition line up. These competitions will be held monthly, all entries are due at the club meeting 2 months prior the competition date. Entries may be submitted earlier.

Naming the File and Folder
File Name to show Image Title and Member Number only. (Use tildes (~) to separate)
e.g. The Windmill~87.jpg Save file to a new Folder, use the year and month to name the folder (e.g. 2007 Jan).

Preparing a Digital File for Projected Image Competition
These steps apply to Photoshop CS2. You may need to modify them if you're using another program.

1. Open the file in Photoshop
2. Flatten the image (Layer>Flatten Image)
3. Crop the image as necessary
4. Resize the image for projection (Image>Image Size)

  • Ensure Scales Styles, Constrain Proportions and Resample Image are ticked and that either Bicubic or Bilinear is selected in the box imediately following Resample Image
  • Under the heading 'Document Size' enter 72 as the Resolution
  • Now under the heading 'Pixel Dimensions'
    • For landscape format image enter a width of 1024pixels, if the height is greater than 768pixels enter 768pixels for the height
    • For portrait format image enter a height of 768pixels and the width will adjust accordingly
    • Press OK

5. Save the file as a JPEG (File>Save As)

  • Name file as mentioned above
  • Select a JPEG quality of 12

6. Burn to CD and take to Camera Club meeting.




Note: The images are displayed by a data projector using sRGB colour space and accordingly it is recommended that images use the same. To alter the colour space do the following after step 3:
3.5. Select the select sRGB Color Space (Edit>Convert to Profile)

From the pulldown menu in Destination Space select sRGB IEC61966–2.1

    EDI Competition Information
    • A maximum of two entries per member.
    • Images must be in JPEG format only (with no compression).
    • Maximum horizontal size - 1024 pixels.
    • Maximum vertical size - 768 pixels.
    • Entries are due on club nights and handed to Paul Temple.
    • Entries to be submitted on CD (Save as a multi-session, each month add the new folder).
    • Files are to be named with image title followed by member number separated with a tilde (~).
      (e.g. The Windmill~87.jpg).
